WORD: {Rejoice!}

“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)

I was convicted today as I listened to a Graham Cooke sermon on rejoicing. I am constantly praying to God about things I need or want, things I'm worried about, things that I think should happen a certain way and most times without giving thanks to Him for exactly who He is--not just what He has given me or what He has done for me--but WHO HE IS. I fall victim to thinking about the circumstances in my life without including the power of the blood of Jesus. It is a daunting task to try and overcome all of the obstacles in life without the love of a Savior. When we think of our current life happenings WITH Jesus, there should be nothing but rejoicing because He has already overcome, He has already set us free, He's already set the perfect path, and He's promised peace and joy and love {etc}, when we choose to live this life with Him. We should rest and rejoice because we know the outcome is good--we know because we chose Him. It doesn't mean that the process of getting to the outcome isn't going to be hard but how empowering it is to know that we have the strength of Heaven behind us!

Lord, we want to live our lives rejoicing in exactly who you are. We thank you for your heart towards us, your intentions towards us, your faithfulness, your love, and your grace that we so desperately need each day. Thank you for using difficult circumstances to help us know the fullness we have in you and to teach us to stand for something and BELIEVE! Lord, we declare that we believe you are good. We believe that you are a loving God and a forgiving God, a God who always has our best interest in mind. We believe in your promises, your truth, and your Word. We rejoice and step into a place of thanksgiving because YOU. ARE. GOD!

"This is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it."

Oh Boy! Waffles {yes, that's what they're called!}

Thank you to Chase's Grandma Daylene for creating this DELICIOUS waffle recipe. Gamy Sharon has made it a bunch and passed it down to us and now it's a go-to cheat meal for us:){FILLED with gluten... sorry g-free peeps} I thought I'd share the goodness....

{may I suggest breakfast for dinner??}
2 1/4 Cups Flour
4 tsp Baking Powder
3/4 tsp Salt
1 tsp Vanilla
2 Eggs Separated
1/2 Cup Melted Butter
2 1/4 Cup Milk

In one bowl, mix all dry ingredients. In another bowl, whisk egg yolks (SAVE EGG WHITES IN SEPARATE BOWL), then add milk, butter, and vanilla. Add dry ingredients to wet. Beat egg whites until stiff with an electric mixer (takes a few minutes). Lastly, FOLD egg whites into the rest of the batter and you're done! Drop in blueberries, bananas, nuts, chocolate chips or maybe some bacon!!! SO GOOD!

We love the Maple Agave Syrup Blend from Trader Joe's:) Not too sweet and no high fructose corn syrup!

Why I Love Baby Wise # 1: Security of a Schedule

Security of a Schedule:

I will be the first to admit, Babywise is not for everyone. I happen to be a creature of habit who thrives on having a routine and structure, so it really works for me and my family. For us, Babywise is more of a lifestyle than just a schedule. I decided I loved it when I nannied for an incredible family with twin boys (and now a beautiful little girl). One would think a house with 1 yr old twins would be nightmare for a nanny. NOT. AT. ALL! The moment I walked in there was a notepad with their schedule on it. From the time they woke up in the morning until the moment they shut their eyes at night, I knew what to do with them. I knew when they'd be hungry, when they needed to play, and when they'd be ready for a nap. Before I met them, I always just accepted the fact that life with kids was just going to be completely chaotic. I figured the kids would run the show until they moved out of the house. This beautiful family opened my eyes to a whole new world and it's crazy for me to think that I'm right smack dab in the middle of it now, using these same principles to raise my little guy.

The eat/wake/sleep cycle has been a lifesaver for me since the day he was born. It has made it easier for me to plan out our days (i.e. timing of playdates, running errands, going to the gym, etc) and also easier for me to troubleshoot when he's fussy (is it a growth spurt, is he teething, is he sick/gassy). He wakes up in the morning, I nurse him, feed him solids, he plays for about 2 hours, then he goes down for a 2 hour nap. He wakes up from his nap, I nurse him, feed him solids, he plays for about 2.5 hours, then goes down for a 2 hour nap. At 7.5 months old, this cycle happens 3 times a day for Cruz (with the 3rd nap only being about 45min-1hr) and by 7pm every night he's down for the count until 7am the next day... and then it happens all over again. I don't have to worry about him being hungry when I'm out running errands because I know he just ate a full meal. I don't have to worry about him falling asleep everywhere I go and getting insufficient rest during the day because I know he just took a good, 2 hour nap. I know when he's tired, I know when he's hungry, I know when he's teething or going through a growth spurt. {Of course, there are off days, and even weeks, but we just adapt and move on with our day. I guess my whole point is, when there are "off days", I know why most of the time because I can easily look back and check off the boxes-hungry, check...tired, check...}

Having structure and a routine has made the transition into mommy-hood so much smoother for me. Obviously, it is still incredibly challenging every day but the structure has given me a huge amount of comfort. The comfort comes from, first of all, truly believing in the Babywise principles, and also comfort in the fact that I feel like I know Cruz's needs and wants almost before he does {In no way am I saying that if you don't do Babywise you don't feel this same way. Just sharing my own experience and feelings:).} I really believe that Cruz finds comfort in the schedule too. He gets excited for "night nights" and wakes up joyful and happy most days. If he wakes up early from a nap, most of the time he will play in there happily for 30-45 minutes before I have to go get him. He likes sleeping, he has always been a good eater, and he plays SUPER hard {seriously, maximum capacity} when he's awake. I can't speak for him, but I think he likes the routine as much as I do, which just reassures me that I'm doing the right thing for our family.

If you're interested in Babywise, you should get the book AND also check out this lady's blog. She is a Babywise know-it-all and has a ton of wisdom.

This is our schedule most days:
7:00-Wake up, Eat (nurse + solids)
9:00-Nap
11:00-Wake up, Eat (nurse + solids)
1:00-Nap
3:00-Wake up, Eat (nurse + solids)
5:00-Nap
5:45-Wake up, Play
6:30-Start Bedtime Routine (bath, jammies, read, eat, prayers, night nights)
7:00-Eat, Bedtime (nurse only)

WORD- {A Childlike Faith}

"Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a child will never enter it." - Mark 10:13-15

I think a childlike faith is being in complete amazement every single day at what Christ did for us and continues to do for us... with no doubts, no fears, and 100% trust. The same way most kids trust in and find comfort in their parents is the same way the Father designed our relationship with Him. The only way we can find comfort in Him is if we know {and truly believe} with all of who we are that we can trust His plan for our lives, that He IS accessible and ALIVE in our lives, that He has a tender heart towards us, and that He loves us more than we can even comprehend.

Children are completely trusting, faithful, they have a healthy lack of self-sufficiency, they're humble, yet confident-all things that characterize a person committed to a life with God. They all seem to possess this no reservations attitude and an incredible zeal for life. They are confident in who they are but humble enough to know they need to rely on something more than themselves. Besides the innocent, never ending "why" question you hear repeatedly from kids, they aren't skeptical and usually undoubtedly trust the people closest to them 100% of the time.

I want to be like them today {and beyond}. I want to look to the Father with confidence in who He says He is, what He says He is going to do in my life, and, without question, believe all of the Truth and Promise of His Word. I want to be in awe each day and excited about what Christ did for me and what He is continuing to do in my life. I want to be THANKFUL {such an easy thing to say, but are you really thankful?} for my salvation! I want to look to the Lord with childlike admiration, with no reservations, and complete expectation of His goodness in my life.

Thank you, Lord, for being our everything!

Joah Love

Ok, so I am not impressed with most of the baby boy clothes out there. If you know me, I have a very plain jane color palette and am imposing that on Cruz as well (poor kid!). Anyway, besides Baby Gap, I haven't found any other cute clothes until.... Joah Love. While I'm not going to spend a fortune on clothes, it is nice to know that there are some designers out there whose style resonates harmoniously with mine....

And to all you mamas of girls, how cute are these....

Loving This Stuff-7 Months

Cruz is obsessed with the bath. Since the hardest time of day is the stretch right before bedtime, I have made bathtime part of his bedtime routine each night (although, if you do this, I would recommend not actually washing them with soap every night but probably every 2-3 nights). We take a bath, put jammies on, read a book, drink a bottle, say prayers and then it's "night night" time. Here is what I'm loving for bathtime:

Rubber Ducky:
Cliche, I know:)

Cups:
He loves these hard plastic cups we have in our cupboard. Easy and cheap fun:)

Bath Letters & Numbers:
Obviously he has no idea what these things are but he loves to chew on them:)

Aveeno Wash:
I like this wash because it's reasonably priced and smells so good! I tried using organic wash for a while and it's just so expensive so I switched to this.

Other Toys Cruzer is loving right now:

Music Table:
I help him stand at the music table and he bangs away at this thing for quite a while before getting bored.

Walker:
This has been great! It has been really cute to see him learn how to "walk" in this thing. He puts his arms up over his head and totally goes for it, banging into anything that gets in his way!

Jumperoo:
We actually had to leave ours in CA when we moved but this is such a great activity for babies who aren't mobile quite yet. They get a ton of exercise and it's a nice break for mama:)

Stacking Cups:
Cheap and easy fun!

Teething Toys:
Cruz likes anything frozen. An easy and cheap trick (which most of you probably know already) is to roll up wet wash cloths and throw them in the freezer. This is probably Cruz's favorite teething "toy". He also likes these:

Sophie (way too expensive, but luckily I got it as a gift!)

MAM Frozen Teethers

Books, Books, Books!
Your baby is never too young to start "reading" books. I read a book to Cruz before every nap and bed and also during playtime. I'm hoping this early exposure will create a love for them in the future.

Independent Playtime
I put Cruz in his pack 'n play around the same time every day for about 30 minutes. He had to work up to playing this long alone but he does a pretty good job at keeping himself busy. I put him in there with a few toys I know will keep him interested and he makes it, most days, about 30 minutes.

Practice!
Cruz is almost crawling. He gets up on all 4's and rocks backward and then face plants. I think it's so important to help him practice conquering this new skill, so we do a ton of tummy time to get those core muscles stronger:). Practice, practice, practice!

7 Months!

My little, big boy is 7 months old. He has gone through quite the change the last month. He got his 1st tooth, followed by his 2nd tooth shortly after. He started sitting up, walking in his walker, and is SO close to crawling that it's driving him mad. He turns bright red, makes a deep grunting sound, and flails his arms and legs when he's on his belly trying to get a toy just out of his reach. He is starting to get on all 4's, rock backwards and then face plant. I'm counting my blessings right now because I know once he goes mobile my life as a mama becomes even harder. Here are some pictures of him at 7 months old:)
